7th ANNUAL EXPERIENCE, STRENGTH AND HOPE AWARDS HONORS
ACTRESS MACKENZIE PHILLIPS

Recovery Awards Show To Be Held At Skirball Cultural Center
February 16, 2016

LOS ANGELES, CA – Writers in Treatment is pleased to announce this year’s honoree of the 7th Annual Experience, Strength and Hope Award, actress/author Mackenzie Phillips. The annual event will take place at the Skirball Cultural Center on Tuesday, February 16, 2016.
The ceremony will once again be hosted by Ed Begley Jr (Portlandia, Best in Show). The headliner will be NPR’s regular on “Wait Wait: Don’t Tell Me” and winner of Last Comic Standing, Alonzo Bodden; a special spoken word piece by Bob Forrest (Lead vocalist for Thelonious Monster and television personality); a set by award-winning singer/songwriter Elizabeth Edwards; John Taylor of Duran Duran will be presenting; as well as other celebrities. The event will also include catered cuisine and 90-minute social soiree.
The Experience, Strength and Hope Award is given in recognition of an individual’s honest life’s memoir including their journey through addiction to recovery, and their dedication and enthusiasm for carrying the message of hope to a society awash in addiction. This year’s honoree is award-winning actress Mackenzie Phillips (American Graffiti, One Day at a Time) for her memoir High on Arrival. Phillips struggled with drug and alcohol abuse for over a decade. After two nearly fatal overdoses, Phillips first entered treatment in 1981 and again in 1992. “We are proud to honor Mackenzie at this years’ Experience, Strength and Hope Awards states Leonard Buschel founder of Writers in Treatment. “Her story is poignant and hopeful for anyone currently grappling with a life threatening addiction. People from all walks will find her book to be a clear eyed snapshot of a Dionysian nightmare, that is a dizzyingly entertaining cautionary tale.”
Greg Laemmle, Laemmle Theaters, will be presenting  the REEL Recovery Film Festival’s ‘Audience Favorite Award to Jay Silverman, producer/director of Girl On The Edge, about a young woman, Hannah (TAYLOR SPREITLER) and her success at overcoming a traumatic calamity during her alcoholic adolescence, at an equine-based rehab, run by Hank (PETER COYOTE), despite her controlling mother played by MACKENZIE PHILLIPS.
Tickets to the event are $75 and available at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2464798http://
