(Los Angeles, CA June 17, 2010) – Writers In Treatment, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit corporation, is proud to announce the formation of the ‘Jewelle Sturm Treatment Scholarship Fund.’ Jewelle died from an accidental drug overdose on April 30th, 2010 in Los Angeles, CA. Ms. Sturm was three weeks away from her 29th birthday. She was an original writer in the classic oral tradition of spontaneous prose and poesy. She was a natural healer and showed great compassion for those who also suffered from mental and emotional disorders.
It is in her honor that this Treatment Scholarship Fund was born. We will enroll one woman a year who needs treatment into a professional and effective rehabilitation program.
This scholarship is made possible by the generous contributions of Jewelle’s numerous friends, family members and select women treatment facilities.
Amidst the tragic loss of a beloved wife, daughter, sister and friend, we hope this small gesture against the insanity of lethal drug addiction can save even one life so other families will not have to bare the sadness of a lifetime.
Writers In Treatment is a 501 (c)(3) non- profit corporation that helps men and women in the writing profession suffering from alcoholism, addiction and other self destructive behaviors get treatment for their disease. Writers In Treatment also produces awareness, educational and prevention programs.
“Most alcoholics and drug addicts usually end up in prison, crippled or dead.” Hunter S. Thompson
