Writers In Treatment produced our annual REEL Recovery Film Series at the Silent Movie Theater in Los Angeles every Tuesday night in April and May, 2009. With sponsorship from local and national treatment facilities and friends W.I.T., we will screened classic films dealing with addiction or alcoholism and had a clinician facilitate an audience discussion after each film. The films included Leaving Las Vegas, Permanent Midnight, Day of Wine and Roses, The Lost Weekend, Less Than Zero, Barfly and Sid and Nancy. Various writers and cast members introduced the films and joined the post screening discussion.
On July 25th, 2009, Writers In Treatment hosted the Essential Screenwriter’s Seminar at the LA Film School. This was an seminar taught by psychologist and author, Dr. Howard Gluss.
On August 21st, 2009, W.I.T., in association with the Beverly Hills Playhouse, presented A HATFUL of RAIN, the classic 1956 play about drug addiction and it’s effects on family. This production is one of the most heartbreaking, tender and redemptive tales about drug addiction ever staged. We experienced the cunning nature of this baffling disease while being powerfully engaged and entertained.
