Many writers’ lives are threatened by the inability to quit alcoholic drinking, serious substance abuse and process addictions. Too often writers and poets working alone at home, a publisher’s cubicle or cabin retreat succumb to the deadly combination of isolation and addiction.
Rebuilding one’s life need not be a solitary effort. Our mission is to provide the treatment and support a writer needs to begin their first step towards recovery.
Research validates the effectiveness of residential and out-patient treatment as an appropriate intervention for men and women with serious addiction problems. The better the treatment, the better the chances for maintaining a lasting recovery.
W.I.T offers scholarships to clients for residential and outpatient treatment. Writers In Treatment has partnered with top tier rehabilitation facilities including the Betty Ford Center, Hazelden, Caron Treatment Centers and Center for Healthy Sex so our writers will receive the highest quality care available in America.
Grants from Writers in Treatment will go directly to the facility providing care. Once our recipients are back at work we are sure they’ll want to help others just like themselves.
Writers In Treatment’s advisory board of psychologists, therapists and certified substance abuse counselors provide free one hour therapeutic sessions for writers in need. These sessions are via telephone, video conferencing and in person.
W.I.T. also facilitates continuing after-care, therapy, 12-step programs, relapse prevention awareness and monthly alumni meetings.
